Co-synthesis of zirconium boride/silicide/oxide composite powders by magnesiothermic reduction

This study uses a magnesiothermic reduction method to investigate the co-synthesis of zirconium boride, silicides, and oxide powder composites using ZrO2, B2O3, Si, Mg initial powders. The synthesis high-temperature ceramic powders is examined through milling durations, temperatures, excess magnesium addition. Thermochemical analysis probable reaction products was conducted by Factsage software. According results, thermochemical predictions resultant phases showed good coherency. High-energy has significant effect on formation boride phase after annealing. However, extended time higher annealing temperature have no effects composition constituted composite according X-ray diffraction results. An 600 ºC enough obtain ZrB2-based In final phases, addition stoichiometric displays an important feature. After milling, annealing, leaching procedure, comprises ZrB2, ZrSi, ZrSi2, MgSiO2, added ZrO2 in their structure.
